Microbiological Quality of Cosmetics – ISO 17516
The ISO standard 17516 is considered the state of the art regarding the microbiological quality of cosmetic products. It specifies limits for the maximum content of bacteria, yeasts, and molds and also requires the absence of the following microorganisms in 1g of product:
- Staphylococcus aureus
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa
- Escherichia coli
- Candida albicans
- Other microorganisms such as Pluralibacter gergoviae, Burkholderia cepacia, etc.
There are repeated recalls and withdrawals of products due to the insufficient microbiological quality of products (Safety Gate).
